Chinatown, Singapore: Pastel shophouses, a Hindu temple with a colourful gateway tower, Chinese temples with red walls and green roofs, and behind them the towers of the business district. So close to the equator, the midday sun stands almost straight overhead. Three places to stand: in front of Sri Mariamman Temple, at Speakers' Corner in Hong Lim Park, in front of Maxwell Food Centre.
